Below you'll find brief descriptions of some of the equipment we utilize on investigations. Keep in mind that although these are all excellent things to have, a person's ability to keep their wits and drive to debunk potential claims is really what helps us achieve our objectives.
We utilize the Lutron E22-A for all of our Electromagnetic Field Testing. The theory is that a spirit will drain energy from nearby sources, thereby enabling some sort of paranormal activity. With this meter, we can measure that energy, and determine the source. Most times we find that feelings of being watched, nausea, and even hallucinations can be caused by exposed wiring, power boxes, heavy use appliances, etc. These dangerous conditions can cause harm over time, in addition to fueling paranormal paranoia.
The Actron CP7875 is our Infrared Thermometer of choice. While others can pinpoint a measurement down to a very small area, we prefer this one for detecting temperature fluctuations in a larger area. Typical reports of cold spots are in a corner of a room or sometimes attached to an object. The cone-shaped trajectory of this device is ideal for getting an average reading of such areas. Most temperature fluctuations can be traced to venting or poor circulation in rooms.
We use the Sima SL-20IRs quite frequently. Paired with the right camcorder, these will allow fantastic night vision enhancements in total darkness. We pair with them with the Sony Handycams listed below, and are thereby able to extend our night vision from about 15 ft to at least 50 ft. Each one has 36 LEDs, and the included arms (once attached to a camcorder), can hold multiple lights. Battery time runs about an hour, but they are very reliable, and relatively inexpensive.
For still photography and HD footage, we utilize our Canon XS-20. A lovely DSLR is exactly the clarity and true image capturing device we need. 12 Megapixels ensure all of our shots come out clear and are easy to zoom in on. The HD footage for movies is shot in 720p, meaning we have the best quality captures without spending a huge amount of money.
For our digital audio recording needs, we utilize the above models (Sony ICD-P520, ICD-P620, & ICD-720). These are all very easy to use, and provide an excellent recording medium, both in quality and length of recording.
Our handheld camcorders of choice are the Sony DCR-HC42 & DCR-HC52. These provide great battery life and excellent low light recording quality, especially when paired with the Sima IR lights listed above. These are the workhorses in our arsenal, and quite often get put in weird places just to achieve a certain angled shot.
For our CCTV system, we chose a no frills setup from ZMODO. 4 IR Bullet cams (ZMD-CP366PU) allow us excellent coverage, as they see nearly 100ft in 0 lux. They each have easy to modify stands, and are a lighter purple shade, making them easy to see in total darkness. Our DVR (ZMD-H9004UV-500GB) has built in support for wireless and smart phone monitoring, in addition to a highspeed USB port for easy file transfers.
